Artist Statement:
My writing often centers around main characters that struggle with mental health to some capacity. This is a huge focus of my writing because it has been a huge focus of my life. As someone who struggled a lot with their own mental health as a teenager, the things I clung to were songs, movies, and books that I saw myself in or felt were speaking to what I was going through. And now, being older and in a much better place than when I was a teenager, I want to provide that sense of knowing to those out there searching. Thus, I’ve come up with a writer manifesto I intend to carry into all my work:
For that kid alone in their room. For that kid in that theater seat clinging to every scene. For that kid in your heart. Write today, so you can give tomorrow. This is my pledge, to give back what was given to me: Tomorrow. If I can give tomorrow through my pen, I’ll have done more than words can truly say.
